Yesterday, my wife brought home yet another popular parenting item after attending a baby shower. They say parenting is all about having the right tools, but I wonder why there are so many new items constantly popping up. I'm still figuring out how to use sterilizers and the like, and it feels like my evening is over by the time I lay my eyes on the latest parenting gadget she brings home.
So, what's today's item?
The Lala's Pillow!
It is said to help position the baby to sleep on their side, extend their sleep duration, assist in head shape management, and is adjustable to fit the baby's physique. It looks super comfortable in online photos, but will our little Osam be able to sleep well on it?
Given its popularity, I thought I'd unbox the Lala's Pillow before Osam arrives.
It comes with an inner cushion, a cover, and an instruction manual (though calling it an "inner cushion" sounds a bit odd, but that's how it's described on their official website). Don't mistake it for an adult pillow. It doesn't have as much stuffing. Although for an adult pillow you'd expect it to be stuffed to the brim, this one seems appropriately filled for a baby's physique.
You can remove the stuffing from three parts of the inner cushion. My wife described it as "extremely soft", though I didn't quite feel the same way. 😅
Considering the need for washing, the official website provided instructions:
👉 Lala's Pillow - Cover Washing Instructions:
1. Secure all zippers and gently hand wash in lukewarm water or machine wash inside a mesh bag. If washing both covers, try to wash them connected.
2. Wash separately with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Beware of potential damage from other laundry items.
3. For fabric preservation, focus on cleaning major stains, or give it a light wash on a gentle cycle. Dry it naturally in a well-ventilated shade. Expect slight shrinkage due to its 100% cotton nature.
👉 Lala's Pillow - Inner Cushion Washing Instructions:
1. Secure all zippers and gently hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Naturally dry afterward.
2. Post-wash, if the stuffing clumps together, unzip and redistribute the filling.
Expecting warm weather around April when Osam is born and during his sleep training, my wife got a mesh cover. I'm truly grateful for her thoughtful preparations! She asked me to include a photo from the baby shower, so here's a sneak peek! 😆
I'll probably revisit these instructions when we start using the pillow for Osam, but for now, let’s acquaint ourselves with the correct usage of Lala's Pillow:
👉 Proper Usage:
1. Shape the inner cushion: After unboxing, press the sides to shape it into a cylinder.
2. Adjust the stuffing: As shown in the picture, you can adjust the stuffing for each section. Recommended quantities are specified.
3. Lay the baby properly: Place the baby's head on the side with the rabbit ears and snugly fit the opposite cushion against their chest, sandwiching it between their legs and arms. Once the baby embraces the cushion, tuck the non-adjustable side of the pillow under the embraced cushion. Done!
Aside from the above, there are detailed guidelines on the pillow's official website, covering head angles, body directions, and other useful tips for proper positioning.
