It's been a day since Osami arrived home. After a challenging night of feeding, my wife said it felt like dawn had finally broken. Meanwhile, I surprisingly slept quite well. Well, I just slept really well, actually. 😱 I only woke up briefly when Osami fussed or cried; my snoring seemed to act as white noise for the baby.
Feeling guilty...🥲 I told my wife to rest from 6 a.m., and before she woke up, I changed Osami's wet diapers twice and gave a bottle once. After she got up, our day continued pretty much as usual.
There was a spit-up after one of the feedings. Looking at our baby app statistics, I noticed that Osami was being fed frequently after crying – maybe too soon after breastfeeding? Perhaps overfeeding caused indigestion?
Regardless, being a meticulous dad (a bit overboard? 😅), I suggested calculating the feeding amount as follows since it seems like there's not much breast milk yet: about 2.5ml per minute...
Breastfeeding time (minutes) x 2.5ml + formula amount
= Total amount Osami should eat
(3.5kg x 180ml = approximately 630ml)
If there's more breast milk later on, we might adjust it to 3ml per minute. My wife was concerned about dehydration, but she somewhat agreed. We decided to give 40~60ml of formula if the interval after breastfeeding is short (previously it was a fixed 80ml).
But in practice, parenting isn't always by the book...!
After breastfeeding, Osami got hungry again, so... we gave formula straight away – our little secret. 😭😭
Today's main event was giving Osami a bath. But I was unsure if we could manage it, so as a warm-up, I posted separately about trimming Osami's nails (kind of like a prelude? 😅).
I used the Agard Nail Trimmer I reviewed about a month ago to trim Osami's nails.
After the trim, we noted how thin and delicate the nails were, and how closely they adhered to the fingers. We felt that it would have been quite a challenge if we had used scissors. Trying to photograph Osami's hand was a task since the baby seemed fidgety and sleepy, so I just recorded it as a GIF (and not just because the trim wasn’t perfect...😅).
I also took a short video of the nail trimming process. It might be helpful for those who want a detailed view of the procedure.
Now, the only thing left for the day is to give Osami a bath after dinner! I'm quite nervous. Osami did spit up earlier, so a bath is necessary. Anyway, let's give it our best shot! 💪💪💪
