Clean Washing and Sterilization!
Washing
For cleaning baby Osam's bottles, we've purchased a Mother-K bottle brush and an Edison bottle sterilizer. Just like yesterday, it's time for a hands-on practice today!
Instead of directly applying the dish soap to the brush (as residues might remain on the bottle), we prepared a basin of water mixed with the soap. Each bottle was soaked and then scrubbed meticulously.
The body of the bottle was cleaned with the larger brush, and the cap and nipple were cleaned with the smaller one. However, cleaning the Tommee Tippee bottle with the Mother-K brush was a bit tricky due to its wide design. Regardless, every nook and cranny was scrubbed, and then rinsed several times under running water.
Sterilization
Next up, sterilization! There are three main methods: boiling, steam, and UV sterilization.
Boiling involves immersing the bottle in boiling water. Usually, bottles are boiled for 2-3 minutes, and nipples for 20-30 seconds, ensuring they're turned to sterilize every part.
Most people seem to use UV sterilizers, but we haven't bought one, so we usually substitute with steam sterilization.
Our go-to for bottle sterilization is the Edison bottle sterilizer. My sibling, who used it for their twins, gave it to me as they no longer needed it. Its size is quite large, accommodating all the bottles, nipples, and caps we had washed.
We didn't put all the cleaned bottles in the steam sterilizer because we were concerned that the transparent PP bottles might deform under the steam's heat. So, we only added the PPSU bottles (we'll have to think about how to sterilize the PP ones separately).
With about 130ml of distilled water at the bottom, after placing the bottles inside and pressing the start button, it automatically sterilized and dried them.
After about 30-40 minutes, the sterilization was complete! With this, we seem to be all set for Osam's meals. All that's left for tomorrow is some thorough house cleaning. While we're uncertain how well Osam will adjust to our home instead of the hospital or maternity clinic, we'll do our best to make it comfortable. 😅😅😅
