One day, I noticed a blister on Nayul's upper lip that disappeared after a few days, so I thought it was gone. However, a few days ago, the blister reappeared. Not long after, the scab on the lip fell off, and new skin began to grow. Curious about the reason, I searched the internet for 'newborn lip blisters, lip vesicles,' etc. The first search result was mostly related to the herpes simplex virus (HSV), but the shape of the blister was different. So, it's not herpes..😅 When I searched in English, the most similar term that came up was 'Sucking blisters.' The images related to this term also matched the blister on Nayul's lip. I'll try to address the curiosity about Nayul's lip blister based on this information.
Sucking Blisters
The reason for the blister on a baby's lip is the friction caused by sucking on the nipple during breastfeeding. It's similar to the principle of getting a friction blister on the sole of your foot after a long walk or exercise..!! If we simply calculate the time Nayul spends sucking on the bottle nipple, considering he feeds on formula every 3-4 hours..
[Daily time Nayul spends sucking on the nipple]
(30 minutes per feeding - 10 minutes break) x 68 times a day (every 34 hours)
= 20 minutes x 6~8 times
= 2 hours ~ 2 hours 40 minutes!!
More than 2 hours out of 24! Nayul spends a lot of time sucking on the nipple😅. It would be more surprising if he didn't get a blister..ㅎㅎㅎ
Signs and symptoms include small blisters forming on the upper or lower lip, generally without pain. No treatment is needed, and they usually disappear within a few days or weeks. In Nayul's case, the blister gradually hardened and the scab fell off within about a week. And now!? New skin is growing on the lip👍👍👍 (My wife says it's not a blister but a callus.. Excuse me.. if you know better, would you like to write the post..? 😅)
If anyone wants to know more, you can check out the article below. It provides some tips on how to help with blister treatment (e.g., breastfeeding, applying natural oils, using lanolin cream, etc.)
Besides blisters caused by simple breastfeeding, there are herpes viruses that can be transmitted through adult kisses, which can be fatal for babies with weak immunity. I'll look into this separately next time. Today's post about Nayul's situation is not as extensive as I thought, but I'll wrap it up here😅
